OK so we named our son Al after my husband's grandfather but I was happy to go along with it because of the song. There. I said it.

I immediately dived right into the Sarah Milov story on Twitter, and became even more mad to see that the culprits are treating this issue as a straightforward 'oops we forgot to credit' issue, and not acknowledging that it is about institutionalized sexism in academia and media, and about how when men are the only gatekeepers, women will just keep being the losers in these 'oops, my bad' moments

Oh man that Captain Awkward sounds so much like my mother. She was convinced I’d want my grandmother’s furniture. Which was nice! But it was heavy and real wood and valuable and needed taking care of and I am a hobo that spent 10 years moving every six months and now I have cats that would love to destroy something that fancy and I’m not really going to take the time to, like, oil furniture that needs taken care of and whatnot. I’m so glad she’s out of my life because my girl and I had many conversations about how when she died we were going to have to call a junk removal service and pay them to take the lot. I guess now my sister will get the giant antique china cabinet which was always a hilarious threat because I don’t have CHINA. I don’t even have a dining table!

She doesn't have to keep china in it - she could keep anything in it, like books or liquor!

but srsly I am going through this only it's me who is thinking 'but that was my grandmother's' and I mostly been able to remind myself that somebody out there who really wants this thing, so it's good to move it along to its new home where it will be used and happy.
