I think you are being FAR too generous to the husband of the lady about to give birth. She is the one giving birth, and if she needs the support of her mother, who *has actually been pregnant and given birth before*, unlike the husband, then she should have it. He needs to suck it up.

Buddy is the one with the moustache, he yelled at me from his cage at the rescue, so I said, okay, okay, dopey moustache boy, of course I'll take you, (when I took him out, he purred like a motorcycle), and then there was this quiet black cat behind him and I said well, I'll take him too, "Oh you don't have to" they said, but I insisted, THEN i found out they were brothers! How could they have split them up!!
They are a couple of big goofballs who hang out with us, purr, and cuddle and we love our little dudes! Gus (the black cat) is very elegant and dignified, Buddy is a goof who chases his tail.
