OH, also *I* watched JOKER, which is so fucking mediocre it made me want to DIE, but I've talked so much shit about it unwatched that I felt obliged to watch it. I was worried my husband would like it, bc straight cis men and DC movies is such a thing, but he was like "this is a bad movie" and now I love him more securely.

It's bad and Joaquin is bad IN IT, I was so happy.

Do you not like Joaquin in general? Or just this movie? I could only get 1/3 in. A mentally ill man going down the tubes and then his criminal shit was too close for comfort.

I ended up watching it with my husband after months of similar shit-talk and it's just so dumb and overwrought, at best.

When I first saw the trailer for Knives Out, I said "that looks like if Agatha Christie wrote a parody of Agatha Christie, but American". I was right, and I loved it, and I am here for Daniel Craig's newest franchise.

So glad your mom is there and hope things are getting better as the light starts to think about returning! Also can I just thank you again for talking about Schitts Creek solidly for years till I actually watched it?? I knew all the time I would love it and oh man I really do. But it would have taken longer without you, and now I get to treasure them all so much for more of my life!

I saw both The Irishman and Parasite at the weekend and loved both. Also Bait, three out of three!

Just on The Irishman, I felt the whole point was to say “if you thought Goodfellas and Casino were saying that gangsters are cool or clever, then watch this.”

All of the mobsters are pathetic, everything they do is tawdry from the start?

Nicole, have you ever thought about exec producing? You have such incredible depth and taste in film, I’d really love to see the projects you’d foster.

I DID EXEC PRODUCE A MOVIE!!!! (If you already knew this and this is a joke, this can just be an excuse for others to watch it.) https://www.amazon.com/Acid-King-Jim-VanBebber/dp/B07ZHR1T5H

Can't wait to show my mom Knives Out! (I have more mental bandwidth to keep track of The Movies and The Shows, so this is my filial job and I love it. )

I was tempted to watch Marriage Story last week, even though it would cut way too close to the Childhood bone emotionally (maybe I'll be ready in another 20 years).

...So I ended up watching Ordinary People for the first time instead, naturally. *snorfle*

I like Marriage Story, I liked it more the second time, and then I had an excuse to show my mom videos of actual singers doing "Being Alive" (Adam did a great job but, you know, it's a stretch.)

Marriage Story ended up being sweeter and funnier than I expected, after avoiding it due to not wanting to endure the obvious storyline and emotions. I think I dreaded it so much that it ended up not being nearly as bad as all that by the time watched it.

I truly disliked it so much, but when I think on it, I did love Laura Dern and Alan Alda and Ray Liotta so maybe what I really hate are those two characters existing, being married and divorcing lollll

This is like a list of things I would watch with my mom (who died 4 years ago this week so the loss is on my mind even more), so it is lovely to think about moms and adult daughters doing some quality media consumption together. ❤️
