It’s also neither relatable nor delightful to be like “my hip injury from when my mare bucked me off kept me from skiing, which is usually the way I get exercise in the sun in the mountain winters” but it’s TRUE. Also, when my friend’s mare has her foal I promise I will basically liveblog its journey.

The darkness HAS been amazing for my Boo Radley skin, of course.

Speaking of Boo Radley, looks like the partner's parents are going to take us to see To Kill a Mockingbird, which I hate on principle because I dislike Aaron Sorkin and I very much think Harper Lee would not have endorsed this adaption, but my partner's mother wanted to see something that would make her feel cultured without being Shakespeare, which she inexplicably does not care for. I am looking forward to Russell Harvard's take on the character (and others), though - it's so rare for deaf actors to play characters who aren't deaf. Are you going to see anything else while you are (presumably) up here and styled for Oklahoma!?

This was precisely what I needed to read at precisely the right time. You are generous and brilliant and I need to mainline this exact energy for the next month during THE DARK in the Netherlands. Thank you!!! And so glad you are on the mend. 💕

I also got a Peloton after Amanda Mull’s article (she is not my friend, but I like everything she writes). I love it, but maybe I wasn’t as fit as I thought I was! I think I’m EMS71, a very boring Peloton name that probably I will change soon.

That article made me want to get rid of my kitchen table and put in a Peloton instead (it is an extremely small apartment).

I told Amanda to make Peleton move her to a bigger place bc I swear that piece must have sold a million bikes!

I eliminated my home office to make room for the bike because I wasn’t working from home. Three weeks later I got a new job, working from home! That starts next week. Will see if the bike can double as a desk?

My Utah-loving son and I have laughed so hard about this packaging, the most productive conversation about condoms we’ve ever had. It’s so smart. They’re making a mistake!

Yeah!! I also came here to cheer for Frank Turner. I listened to “Be More Kind” and “Don’t Worry” and “Brave Face” approximately eight million times in the last two years.

I too am popping D vitamins like candy, though I think Brooklyn is heaps better than Chicago and has so far had a very mild winter and also my doctor upped my Wellbutrin dose. It's STILL dark.

I admit I laughed when I saw the subject because, like, aesthetically I prefer gloom and darkness, but I get the sadbrains from it and it's just not right when it's completely dark at 4:30pm. I also don't like the cold. So all around that's why I prefer living in the South, but even so. I feel you, boo. We'll all get through this.

Yes! Feeling intense sympathy for the human and animal victims along with "What world have I brought my children into?", etc. We should not be surprised this is hard, and yet we don't extend grace to ourselves we'd readily hand out to others.

So very glad to hear you are doing better!!! Huzzah for biking, community, Vit D, and Geordie glasses. Miss you on Twitter (especially that I signed back on too late on your last day to see your reaction to the Queen's pronouncement on Harry and Meghan - what did you think of it?). But my brain is often worse after reading Twitter, and with you gone and LMM using it much less, I'm more motivated to give myself good breaks from it too, so that's good.

Darkness and chill and incipient transition to menopause are also increasing my depression (if you've had clinical depression before, you're much more likely to have some when transitioning to menopause), so I got a hormone patch and I think that is helping some. Exercise would also help!

Oh maaaan, Nicole -- I grew up there and always had a hard time in the winter too. The mountains and canyons are gorgeous, but there was something about the muted colors and the big mountain shadows this time of year that was rough. Pump up music + exercise were my salvation too.

I'm so sorry you've been SAD (and sad). I've been listening to fewer podcasts and more audiobooks, which has been feeling less frenetic to me, and it's been good for my mental health not to feel the need to "keep up." I'm glad you're investing in your health and finding things that help!

KELLY CLARKSON’S ‘HEAT’!!!!! There was a period of several weeks this summer during which I think I listened to that album a minimum of 3 times a day, usually more, and it’s only *barely* dropped since then. I hope it’s bringing you a lot of joy. <3
