I did enjoy that Twitter came together, briefly restoring the glory of what I'll call the Young Pope era, when we just all goofed on and reacted to the same thing rather than 100 different and terrifying garbage fires of equal importance.
(I was intrigued since the cast is absolutely loaded with talent and then OH JESUS CHRIST UNCANNY VALLEY CAT PEOPLE)
When I saw "Hooper" I was hoping desperately it was directed by Tobe Hooper. The Cats musical as directed by the director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be glorious.
I was supposed to see Hadestown on July 13th at 8 PM but it was cancelled and refunded because of the black out. So disappointing. Many couples around me where the one who was INTO IT was weeping while the other person gently patted them on the shoulder from a safe distance. I felt worst for the people who traveled to NY for the occasion.
Anyway, a generous soul in my life used a connection to get me tickets for tomorrow at 2. 😭🎶 I’m coming! 🎶
P.S. Unfun fact: Most of us were waiting for information in a massive hot line in a parking garage and had no clue any of the shows were briefly singing on the street. I was very annoyed when people asked me about it which is not very gracious sorry!! Have a great weekend!
My birthday is tomorrow and I am supposed to be hearing back about a job either today or early next week, and the suspense is driving me up the freaking wall (it’s been 3 weeks since my interview). Please friends, please send all the good vibes that I get the only bday present I really want....a job!
A while back I posted in here about going through a breakup at the same time as getting a comprehensive exam--I HEARD BACK TODAY THAT I PASSED!!! still have to study for the other three, but feeling so much better about my summer/getting to phd candidacy and shook that I was able to power through everything and make it! thanks to everyone on here for the advice and good wishes, it was so helpful in such a rough patch <3
Nicole, I just read your tweets about your dad and raising kids and they are an invaluable public service.
I am in Santiago, Chile, a city I like very much, but tracking expenses for a few days has shown me it's impractical to stay here long term while living on savings. So I've readjusted my plans and will be here only till the end of September or so, then off to a less expensive country. I'm still heading to Patagonia, though, because it's a lifetime dream of mine to see it.
Also I plan to make my first-ever pitch to a few periodicals sometime soon: please send four leaf clovers!
By the way, freelance writers: there is now a freelance journalists union under the umbrella of the International Workers of the World. One of the union's first public activities was to tweet out rates paid to journos by Vox and company after the umbrella company tried to intimidate writers into keeping silent about their pay. Come see the goodness on Twitter at @IWWFJU!
It's moving weekend for us, but I'm stuck at work on this cow-mouth of a weather day in Chicago. My mother, however, is a saint, and arrived last night and has been efficiently whipping us into shape. She has the magical ability to look at an overwhelming project and immediately KNOW what needs to be done next. And now she's at the new apartment waiting for the internet guy to show up.
So so excited to see Hadestown tonight, balanced by low-level dread about a BBQ introducing my partner's and my families tomorrow. 35 people, 100 degree heat, half quiet WASPs, half essentially the cast of My Big Fat Greek Wedding...send comedic rather than tragic vibes, please!
A group was going to my friend’s lake house but the rest of the group cancelled so now I am going with her alone! (I did clarify she would still want me by myself.)
I did a getaway like this once and it was glorious! We luxuriously bought our own preferred chip dips and lounged a lot with craft projects and movies.
Is there a job you can have where you just go clean out other peoples' email inboxes? I think I would be great at that, were it a thing. I love clearing out my email. I love having 0 unread messages and no more than a page of read messages in my inbox. Sorting everything into labels? Love it. Archiving? amazing. Deleting stuff? the Best. Please let me come sort out your email.
Our division head now has two inboxes, one for action items from her team, and one for regular email, because her inbox was so horrible. It's working, but sometimes she doesn't respond, so you're like, did this happen?! I usually follow up in meetings about the email item, and she did the thing.
oh gosh yes, my boss has literally thousands and I can't handle it. I know at a certain point 99% of those are from ages ago so she knows what's current and what isn't but it still gives me SUCH anxiety
omg I used to be at 0 read, fewer than 50 unread at all times but cannot stay on top of it anymore and am lucky if it's <50 and <300, respectively in my personal and while my professional is almost always at 0 unread it stays at just under 200 read because I do NOT sort into labels, I truly, truly hate it
Dear Nicole and also!! everyone. I did not want Russia to steal my face, but I did want to try to aging app so I tried it on a cursed doll and it worked SO WELL. It's been yet another nightmare week, but if anyone wants to see an EXTREMELY EXTRA cursed aged doll DM me @rebecca_gams. It brings me incredible joyhorror whenever I look at it.
Hello friends! I recently lost my hair due to illness and I’m playing with scarves (wigs are out of my price range atm). If anyone has recommendations or tips on styling, what kinds of scarves are best, where to get fun scarves for cheap, etc, let me know! ☺️☀️👩🦲
There's lots of old hollywood/vintage glamour youtube videos that can help. Scarves worn on heads were very popular in the 20's/30's and then into the war to keep ladies' hair out of their work machinery and it's still such a great style. You may also be able to pick up some pre-wrapped vintage style turbans for grab and go days when you don't want to style a scarf.
I love scarves! I've had great luck finding really fantastic scarves for like <10 bucks a pop at various vintage stores. They're great quality and you can find some really great patterns.
How do you wear them, if you don't mind my asking? My hair is steadily thinning, and I know I'm going to have to figure something out within the next year or so. I'm contemplating just investing in a series of brightly-colored wigs, but that might be cost-prohibitive...
Hey! I wear little square scarves in a bandana style, often with the knot on top, and I wear long rectangular scarves wrapped in a loose bow at the nape of my neck :)
Have you tried a scarf pad? It helps round out your head and gives the slippery scarf something to hang onto. My mom lost her hair with chemo and these really helped: https://www.headcovers.com/scarf-pad-padding-for-headwear-scarves/ (not this brand exactly, just a scarf pad).
I missed you! I kept waiting for a newsletter to drop! "Okay, it was a short trip, but she writes them the day before, so tomorrow there might be one" and then nothing! 😭😭😭 You looked amazing for the event and that caftan is just the best. So jealous.
I like to look at the snakes! I am not a person who would own a snake but they are cool animals and it's neat to talk to people that are really into it.
I love snakes too! I used to work at a Petco and would get to regularly see/pet them and drape them on myself while I worked at the register. Now I rarely get to see them outside of the zoo. Zoos unfortunately do not let you cosplay your snake-goddess dreams, but I would pay extra for that!
I am having an incredibly rotten time at work and could do with internet hugs/good wishes please
My weekend plans involve eating carbs and sobbing uncontrollably
Many hugs! Soon the day will be over and you will be free of the nonsense for a bit. 💜
I hope things improve for you soon <3
<3 luck and light to you, plus some nice carbs.
i wish you everything and i hope your work and worklife improve.
I hope the day improves and that you have an extra good weekend to make up for today.
(Hugs)
My husband and I took the day off work and sent the kid to daycare so we could have a date day! I’m really looking forward to it.
I who have never previously gave a fuck about Cats am deeply invested in whatever the hell that trailer was.
I did enjoy that Twitter came together, briefly restoring the glory of what I'll call the Young Pope era, when we just all goofed on and reacted to the same thing rather than 100 different and terrifying garbage fires of equal importance.

The tails coming out of the very human butts are what haunt me.
DIGITAL FUR TECHNOLOGY
I do not feel that enough people are talking about their HUMAN HANDS???? I am distressed
I didn't even notice the hands! I was too distressed by the butt/tail... situation.
There is literally something in every single frame to be upset by.
it is certainly a thing that exists now. may cat god have mercy on our souls
I didn't even know Jason Derulo acted!
I was really sad he didn't come in singing an autotuned "Jason Deruuulooooo."
Dame Judi Dench is here for some reason?????? Tom Hooper has a directing Oscar, the choreographer did Hamilton, how is this happening
When I saw "Hooper" I was hoping desperately it was directed by Tobe Hooper. The Cats musical as directed by the director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre would be glorious.
Dunking on Cats was a fundamental part of my collegiate music degree, but now I think I love it?

I'M SEEING ROBYN TONIGHT!!!!
This is the first time I've seen "cow-mouth" used for weather and it's perfect.

Can I hire you to come clean up my boss' inbox? She constantly has AT LEAST 300 unread emails and it takes her AGES to reply to anything.
Our division head now has two inboxes, one for action items from her team, and one for regular email, because her inbox was so horrible. It's working, but sometimes she doesn't respond, so you're like, did this happen?! I usually follow up in meetings about the email item, and she did the thing.

Start an email Marie Kondo business!

I can never keep scarves on my head like that. I think the back of my head is just too flat!

I am going to work on writing this weekend and we may go to a reptile show if we can round up a few bucks. We are very boring and I am enjoying it.
What are your favorite reptiles to see at the reptile show?
I like to look at the snakes! I am not a person who would own a snake but they are cool animals and it's neat to talk to people that are really into it.
